Beyond the classroom, Ms. Payne finds joy in bowling, nature, music, and spending time with her family and friends. Born in Killeen, TX, and a proud Austinite for 17 years, she brings a Texan spirit to her work.

MS. OWENS (she/her)
Las Vegas native Ms. Owens brings a unique perspective to her role. With a background in Criminal Justice and 5 years of SEL experience, alongside 3 years teaching K-2, she's a dedicated educator. Currently pursuing a Masters in Special Education, she's committed to ongoing growth. Passionate about impacting young lives, Ms. Owens' approach is rooted in compassion. As a foster parent, she values love and attention for every child. Her goal is to empower students, showcasing the rewards of hard work. Off-campus, Ms. Owens enjoys the dog park, quality time with loved ones, culinary exploration, and a bit of retail therapy. This year, she's excited to inspire a love for learning, explore innovative teaching methods, and create an enjoyable educational journey for her students. |

Ralph comes to BBA with over three decades of teaching and administrative experience in public and private schools in the US, as well as at four international schools. He has also worked for two internationally known non-profit organizations. He holds a BA degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa, and an M.Ed. from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. He has taught every grade from first through twelfth grade, though the bulk of his experience is in grades three through seven.
His areas of interest in education are far-reaching and include multicultural and international education and curriculum integration. He's skilled at incorporating poetry, theater, art, and music into the curriculum. His graduate research resulted in a thesis on the topic of self-esteem. Ralph's goal is to make school a place children appreciate and love. His sense of humor, energy, and depth of experience make his classroom a joyful, nurturing, learning space.
Ralph's interests outside the classroom include singing, travel, art, cooking, bicycling, swimming, and tennis. He is a voracious reader. He is the father of a 29 year-old son (Army veteran) who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and a 25 year-old daughter (currently in the Navy) and son in-law (currently in the Marines) who both reside in Yuma, Arizona. Both children are international adoptees.
BBA is the capstone of a long career as an educator, and Ralph looks forward to working with the dynamic, creative, deeply caring, and wickedly intelligent faculty to provide a robust, joyful education that speaks to all students as whole individuals.

With four years as a 5th grade teacher in Georgia and two years teaching 4th grade in Las Vegas, and serves as our remarkable 4-7 POD leader.
Ms. King's passion for teaching stems from her love of learning. Witnessing her students overcome challenges and achieve growth brings her immense joy. She instills in them the belief that with determination, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. King enjoys binge-watching shows, spending time with friends, and reading books. She's a devoted fan of musicals and an avid traveler.
Her ultimate hope for this year is to see her students thrive, learn significantly, and feel prepared for their journey into middle school.
